Small Business Saturday UK is a grassroots, non-political, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities.
The day itself takes place on the first shopping Saturday in December each year, but the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on small businesses.
Traditionally an American shopping holiday held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, one of the busiest shopping days of the year. The initiative started in 2010, and has generated a lot of custom for small businesses.
So, why do we need one in the UK?
Our nation's small businesses provide almost two thirds of private sector employment and almost half of private sector turnover.
