The Junior Chamber Project

The Junior Chamber Project

St Austell Chamber of Commerce have started to develop an exciting idea to raise a Junior Chamber, representing the youth of St Austell in both the Chamber and local schools.

The hope of the project is to identify, nurture and support students business sense development and understand both the community and business links in relation to the town and further afield.

The project hopes to recruit 10-15 young people from different stages of school through the application of a live community event. This event will be developed and run by David Halton in conjunction with the four local feeder schools for St Austell, one of which confirmed are Penrice Academy.

Penrice's teacher representative, David Watson, who is soon to become a member of the Chamber from and Educational perspective is helping to develop, promote and link the event within the Chamber of Commerce and local schools.

Currently in the initial planning stage, schools have been invited to find out more about the events, how they could be run and delivered within the current curriculum of a school and how the Junior Chamber can benefit all partied involved.

The next stage of the development is to identify and coach students in completing the event organisation, which will be presented in a Dragons Den type bidding event to both the Chamber of Commerce, BIDS and St Austell Town Council in the hope to get funding for their proposed event.

The top 3 groups of students will be shortlisted and will form the back bone of the Junior Chamber, their first approved job to develop their favoured of the top 3 ideas and put on the event within St Austell.

If there are any businesses willing or able to offer support in the delivery of this project, or would like to further set up links for curriculum enhancement, enrichment, or support from a business perspective then Mr Watson is very keen to make contact. This can be made directly to his email dwatson@penrice.org.uk

Penrice would like to invite Chamber members who are interested in supporting this link to a tour of the school, a lunch and to meet both our outstanding teachers and very amazing students.

David Watson is in the process of trying to set this up for end of June early July. Please email secretary@staustellchamber.co.uk if you would like to be invited to this tour.
