Consultation Exhibition -St Austell and Parishes Town Framework

Summary of the St Austell and Parishes Town Framework: Option document

Economy & Retail

One of the primary aims of the St Austell and Parishes Town Framework is to support the town’s economic ambitions, by:

  • supporting St Austell’s ambition to be the Green Heart of Cornwall
  • continuing to develop St Austell as a centre for economic growth within Cornwall
  • helping to bring about higher quality and better paid jobs for local residents
  • providing the opportunity to deliver more jobs for an expanding population
  • supporting the town centre – creating more reasons for people to visit the town

The Town Framework sets out:

Options for new sites that the private sector can develop for office, retail and industrial space, as well as the protection and expansion of the town’s existing industrial estates and key office locations.

-support further retail only within the town centre, or

-support the town centre but provide further retail space on an edge or out centre location

The opportunity to propose alternative options

Whilst the vast majority of the economic growth will be led by the private sector, Cornwall Council wishes to ensure any barriers to new investment are kept to a minimum; this includes ensuring the town’s infrastructure, can accommodate the type of sustainable economic growth St Austell aspires to.
